My Favorite Hidden Spaces from Hidden Potential
Okay, so I’ve been thinking back to some of my favorite projects I’ve ever done for HGTV, and I must say, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to name a “most favorite.” But that actually got me thinking about my favorite hidden spaces from Hidden Potential, because, well, what’s COOLER than a hidden space?! Go ahead, I’ll wait while you try to think of something cooler. Now that we’ve realized nothing is cooler, let me tell you this: putting a hidden space in your house isn’t just cool, it can be super functional. What do I mean by that? Let’s take a spin through my faves and I’ll tell you what I mean!
My Favorite Spaces from Hidden Potential
For this client below, separating the living room from their kid’s toys was a game-changer. But since they still needed to be able to see their kiddo, fun little cutouts did the trick to unite the spaces while keeping them separate. Plus, under-the-stairs spaces are some of my FAVORITE to design!
And if it’s an under-the-stairs hidden space, you KNOW I’m gonna use fun wallpaper inside!
Another fun way to add a kiddo space under the stairs. The Dutch door, mailbox and light here make it feel like its own little house!
Now let’s talk about a REAL hidden kids’ space. This wouldn’t even have to be a kids’ space if you reinterpreted it in your own home – maybe it could be a little office or speakeasy?! Once that “window” is closed on the wall, it just looks like art. Plus, check out the other “open art” areas on the wall where I stashed some super-secret storage space! Hidden spaces on hidden spaces, guys!
Surprise! Yes, those are cabinet hinges I used to do this art-hidden-window trick.
Hidden spaces, in my opinion, are always the best result of utilizing what was once “dead” space in a home – and making it work hard for you and your family!
This hidden space, I must say, I still am so proud of. Do you see a playroom below? Oh weird, you don’t?
Do you see one NOW?! This was like some secret spy movie kind of stuff we were able to do in this house. The little playroom, when not in use, blends completely into the bookcase and you’d never know it was there.
Now go forth and see what hidden spaces you can add to your OWN home! I bet you’ve got some underutilized space just begging to be something cool 🙂
I’m your fan.
When are you going to be back on TV?
When does the new season on Hidden Potential start ? I luv your show and designs
