Patio furniture can SERIOUSLY break the bank. So a lot of times we end up buying something cheap just to have on our patio or in our backyard so we can enjoy our outdoor space. But it's something...
This year, your Memorial Day BBQ weekend might not look quite the same as years past. With Coronavirus restricting large gatherings in pretty much all parts of the country, the usual backyard BBQs that we’re accustomed to won’t be happening. But let’s not let that put a damper on things – we can still have fun BBQs at home with our family! Being in quarantine sure has forced Brett and me to get more creative with how we celebrate things, but that just means creating a new kind of memory.
To help you plan your Stay-at-Home Memorial Day BBQ, I came up with some tips to make the day fun. I also shopped online for a TON of awesome goodies that could take your homebound BBQ to the next level. Now for my tips…
Your Stay-At-Home Memorial Day BBQ Essentials
1. Set the Mood
Even if you’re just celebrating with your partner and your kids, you can still set up your outdoor area to make it feel like a special party! I like to use a pretty tray to gather themed necessities like plates and cups (add a cute plant for bonus points). You could use a few trays for different things if you have ’em on hand: think “serving supplies” tray, “water balloons & sunscreen” tray, “snacks and dips” tray. These organized stations look nice, but they also keep it feeling like a real, special event. Don’t forget to set up a cooler with lots of delicious drinks!
2. Create a Grill Zone
You know what parties have? Cute menus that tell you what’s cookin’! Stock your BBQ area with all the essentials for grilling (my picks on those below!) and create a menu. You can use a chalkboard, letter board, some poster board – get creative and have the kids help! Dress up the area with a plant or some flowers for extra ambiance. Bring all your plates and serving items to the grilling area and set up a station for plating so you don’t even need to make a trip inside. A tray would come in handy here, too!

3. Bring the Fun!
The most important thing is spending time together and making memories. Hit the pool (or inflate one!), bring out the yard games, have a water balloon fight, and end the day with some family time around the fire pit. If you don’t have a fire pit, clustering together a bunch of pretty, larger candles still sets a really pretty mood. Maybe try putting some lanterns on a table to gather around and share stories. Never underestimate the power of the question, “What was the best part of your day?”
