Okay, as you guys know I'm SUPER EXCITED to finish work today. And for those of you who don't know why I’m excited, HERE'S WHY!!! One word… POPCORN. JK, jk, just kiddinggggg. It's actually...
The Guy I Lived With Before I Was Married
Okay, that’s a racy subject for a less scandalous story, but in case you were wondering, the guy I lived with before I was married is BRETT!! If you’re signed up to get my emails you’ve already heard this story (but if you aren’t and you want to hear cool stuff before other people, sign up here 🙂 ). Anyway, I know that lots of people try not to live together before they’re married, but Brett and I lived together by ACCIDENT because WE WERE ROOMMATES in college.
Okay, here’s the whole story… It was the summer of 2005 and I was working as a real estate agent while attending undergrad at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. I had a little 1-year-old chihuahua puppy named Charlie that had just found his voice (bark bark bark!) and the building I lived in with my sorority sisters wasn’t pet-friendly. I had to move! Since I was a real estate agent, I was helping lots of my friends rent and buy apartments for the next semester and I realized my friend Brett didn’t have anything set up. I called him out of the blue and I’ll never forget the conversation. “Hey Brett, it’s Jasmine, what are you up to?” I asked, knowing he was back home in California. “Just driving through the Wienerschnitzel drive-thru (if you don’t know, this is a hot dog chain restaurant in California… classic 20-year-old Brett!), what’s up?” And with that, I just jumped right in asking if he wanted to be roommates with me and my chihuahua Charlie? “Sure, sounds fun!” he said. “Just rent something and I’ll see you in September.” And I kid you not, that was the extent of the conversation.
In September, while I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off (or a real estate agent with my head cut off… same same) Brett, Brett’s mom Betsy, and my brother moved all our stuff into a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom brownstone apartment that I’d found us on a tree-lined street right near our campus in Boston. And you guys – the rest is history! At some point that year, Brett broke up with his girlfriend back in California and I stopped seeing my boyfriend in Boston and we became a couple. Never in a million years did either of us know we would live together for the next 16 years, have 2 more dogs, move across the country, get married, travel the world, have a baby, and now through all of that, still be roommates… best accident ever!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
