Help! I Wrecked My House, Season 4, Episode 2: Japandi Dreaming (Part 2)
November 14 2023
Project Overview:
THE HOMEOWNER:
MJ and Jason
THE BUDGET:
$40K
THE STORY:
Before you read any further, if you haven’t watched last week’s episode, stop right there and watch it now. Episode 1 featured the downstairs renovation of this home and the family decided to move forward with the renovation of the upstairs as well. In this next episode of ‘Help! I Wrecked My House’ Season 4: Second Chances, MJ and Jason attempted to do the second floor by themselves but they hit a snag again. They fell into their old patterns of indecision. The family still needed so much more help and were unable to move into their renovated home—a lot of work still needed to be done.
THE PLAN:
It was important to drill down and determine what they were going to spend their money on for the upstairs part of this renovation. I had to come up with smart solutions with a tight budget! MJ and Jason were having trouble deciding on the flooring—pro tip: you can’t make any other design decisions until you’ve chosen the flooring. Decisions had to be made. I was certain about also using a Japandi design style for the upstairs, really leaning into imperfections. I was ready to tackle these three bedrooms and bathroom so the family could finally move into their newly renovated dream home.
The Inspiration:
Design Style: Japandi
Japandi combines Scandinavian functionality and Japanese rustic minimalism to create a feeling of simplicity.
