Designing My Third Baby’s ‘Grand Millennial’ Style Nursery

Two years ago, after the extremely fast birth of our second daughter, we moved our family into a tall skinny house (4 stories!) in Park City, UT. Finishing the build on this house has been a labor of love while caring for two young kids, filming my brand new HGTV show 'Roast My Rental,' and being pregnant again on top of it all.
The room I converted for the nursery was a tiny room tucked behind the kitchen that hadn't had a purpose since we moved in. It had been a second playroom, a piano lesson room, even a small guest room - but mostly it was just used for storage. The existing wallpaper, closet, and cozy carpet offered very little character or charm. I started by swapping the can lights for four decorative fixtures and adding a lamp with a natural shade to soften the lighting. I then commissioned a baby quilt to be sewn in the color palette that I had in mind, and even purchased 3 original pieces of art from a Massachusetts-based artist as a throwback to Brett and me meeting in college in Boston. I’m calling this a “Grand Millennial” design style, the perfect mix of traditional and modern elements.
And while the room might be small, using a large dresser for the changing table felt like an opportunity to add storage, a pop of dark green color, and a piece of furniture that can grow with us. I might have said this last time (whoops!) but this baby girl is the final addition to our family and this thought wasn't lost on me as I designed her nursery. My goal was to make it feel like a warm hug (she's going to be a newborn in a Utah winter after all) but also to make a comfortable place for the whole family to relax. Each of my older girls has a drawer of dolls in the closet so they can be like mom and take care of their own babies.
I love how this nursery turned out and I will cherish this space forever!

While this nursery might not be the biggest, I'm really excited to have a place in our house dedicated to this next chapter and having it done is helping me feel like we're ready. Although I'm not sure if anyone is really ready for a third baby - are they!?
