Style Guide: Rugs

Style Guide: Rugs

Everyone knows I’m obsessed with area rugs. From multi-tonal accent rugs in soft neutral colors to the charm of fringe detailing, accent rugs elevate any space while blending seamlessly into your decor. Read on as I share my rug style guide for selecting and styling area rugs for all sections of your home. Below I highlight tons of tips and tricks like why no-pile and low-pile rugs come in handy due to their flat, tight loops, what rugs work best for kids and pets, and more!

Rustic Rug

I love distressed rugs in a modern home to give your space a lived-in edge. Our rustic Newland Rug is made in Egypt and it’s super durable. Available in multiple sizes, this textured statement rug is also easy to maintain due to its weathered look. It works perfectly in a living room or bedroom—especially in front of a fireplace.

Plush Rug

Create a soft place to land with our Camila Rug decked out in moody charcoal and contrasting cream. The high-pile (shaggy feel) on this one makes it comfortable for lying down to watch movies or anchoring an inviting sofa to create a plush retreat.

Round Rug

I love a round rug in the foyer, breakfast nook, and kid’s room. The no-pile nature of this rug also makes it suitable as an unobtrusive accent rug in the bathroom. Our handwoven Flynn Rug comes in two practical sizes and is also outdoor safe (I love how it ties a porch moment together!) It’s low to the ground as well so it doesn’t interfere with doors opening and closing.

The Indoor-Outdoor Rug

Not only is the Marin Rug super durable, it’s also suitable for indoor and outdoor situations and primed for heavy traffic areas like living rooms and porches. I also love layering other smaller or more colorful rugs on top of it to create a real design moment in any area of the house. The low-pile texture means it’s low to the ground which is comfortable for multiple ages in the home.

The Fringe Rug

Our fringe Ellison Rug brings whimsy to any space while also being super functional because it’s suitable for both indoors and outside. Use this rug on its own or layer it to create visual depth. This neutral no-pile rug adds tons of character under kitchen or dining tables while allowing movement for chairs. Use it to also carve out a reading nook or vanity space in the bedroom.

The Boho Rug

Our Milo Rug incorporates boho details that balance both contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Its subtle design and warm neutrals complement any space. Outdoor-friendly and designed for high-traffic areas, it’s suitable for homes with kids and pets. Use it to give your home a spa-like feel! I especially love this one under a bed and settee to create a bedroom escape.

Kitchen Runner

We can all agree that a handwoven rug adds dimension and warmth to any kitchen—but it needs to be durable and with the right amount of weight to be functional. Our handwoven, striped Gothard Rug meets these requirements and then some. The 100% wool muted charcoal and cream runner is streamlined enough to work in tight-fitting kitchen spaces and other heavy-traffic areas, while being weighty enough to stay in place and vacuum easily.

The Textured Rug

Our jute and cotton mix Bailey Rug has zero-pile for a sleek modern look. The smooth surface offers easy maintenance and lends itself beautifully to accenting dinner tables or home entrances. And best of all, it comes in varying sizes, and the beachy color story blends seamlessly with any decor. This is one of my favorite selects for incorporating the jute trend in a practical way year round.
