Open shelves - they’re all the rage these days! And for good reason, because if there’s one thing I love, it’s functional storage that’s also...
I don’t want to brag, but I’ve seen a reading nook or two in my day. And there are a few essential items that all reading nooks require to feel cozy, inviting, and nook-y enough to lure you away from your iphone and to-do list. Here goes:
What do you need for the perfect reading nook?
1. Lots and lots of pillows: Maximum comfort is the name of the game. So the more pillows, the better!
2. Soft throw blanket: Because there’s nothing like curling up under a blanket with a good book. This one is truly one of my favorites. So soft!
3. Good lighting: It’s important to have a lamp or some other form of task lighting within arm’s reach, so that the reading session doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down.
4. Books, of course!: Any self-respecting reading nook should have a place to display a few favorite reads. A shelf or side table are more traditional options, although a vintage bar cart or antique shoe rack could also work just fine.
After taking to Twitter, you all have inspired me to stock up on the following highly recommended reads:
5.) Comfy seating: In this particular reading nook, we built it out to accommodate a daybed mattress, but any cozy chair, sofa, loveseat, or bean bag will do. The trick is to really define the purpose of the cozy seat by surrounding it with pieces tell a story and create optimal reading functionality. Then top it off with this beautiful mattress cover? You’ll never leave!
BONUS ITEM: Soothing plants: No calming space is complete without the presence of healing, healthy plant life. Green plants help purify the air, providing your brain with cleaner oxygen, and making sure you are reading to the your best of your ability. As you may have noticed, there is not a plant shown in the above photo, but there are lots of plants just around the corner, as you’ll see in the additional photos posted below.
